What I do

So what is it I do again? Well I’m a freelance Copywriter, but there's a little bit more to it than that.

First and foremost, I’m a freelance copywriter.

The work I do generally involves coming up with creative ideas and writing words.

However, in previous guises I’ve also been an Art Director and a Creative Director. So even though I spend most of my working day up to the gunnels with wordage, you could split my skill sets under four headings:
freelance copywriting, content writing, art direction and creative direction.

Still none the wiser? Here it is in (fairly) plain English:

Freelance copywriting – conceptual thinking and the words to go with it:
– Advertising campaigns – digital and the old-fashioned inky stuff
– Video and radio scripts – concept development and copywriting
– Direct Mail campaigns
– Brand language / Verbal Identity / Brand Guidelines
– Business and product naming
– Slogans and strap lines

Freelance content writing – more journalistic and often long-form, applied to:
– Social media campaigns
– Website copywriting
– Blog posts
– Brochures / Annual Reports / Flyers / Detail Aids
– Presentations
– PR thought pieces
– Product descriptions
– Newletters / emails / e-books

Freelance art direction – conceptual thinking and development of the visuals to go with it:
– Visualising (pen and paper and Photoshop work)
– Storyboard development
– Picture research and editing
– Project moodboards
– Art directing photographic shoots
– Art directing illustrators
– Art directing video and commercial productions

Freelance creative direction – guiding creative teams and working with clients:
– Overseeing branding projects
– Overseeing integrated campaigns
– Writing and facilitating brand workshops
– Writing and facilitating copywriting workshops
